Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

Coordinating civil society advocacy on antimicrobial stewardship, diagnostics access, and One Health policy to counter drug resistance globally.

The AMR Committee is IDA's platform for coordinated civil society action on antimicrobial resistance. We unite member organisations to develop joint policy positions, engage WHO and G7 AMR processes, and translate field expertise into actionable recommendations on stewardship, diagnostics, and cross-sector governance. Our work bridges human health, animal health, and environmental sectors under a unified One Health advocacy approach.

Our Objectives

Stewardship & Responsible Use

Promote evidence-based prescribing and dispensing practices across human, animal, and environmental sectors to slow AMR emergence.

Equitable Diagnostics Access

Expand access to rapid, affordable AMR diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries where resistance burden is highest.

One Health Surveillance

Support integrated surveillance connecting human, animal, and environmental AMR data for comprehensive resistance monitoring.

Policy Translation

Translate AMR research and field evidence into actionable recommendations for WHO, G7, and national AMR action plans.

Civil Society Coordination

Coordinate joint civil society positions for global AMR governance forums and the UN General Assembly High Level Meeting on AMR.

Bridging Science & Advocacy

Connect scientific expertise with advocacy practice — as demonstrated at the March 2025 Copenhagen hybrid event.
