Are you passionate about global health, digital communications, and meaningful project work? 

The Infectious Disease Alliance (IDA) is offering a dynamic internship/volunteer opportunity for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications while supporting impactful work in infectious disease advocacy, policy, and health systems strengthening.

This flexible role combines strategic communications, digital media, and organizational support, making it ideal for students, recent graduates, or professionals looking to build a strong portfolio in global health and nonprofit communications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and editing content for social media, newsletters, websites, and communication materials.

  • Help develop educational and awareness campaigns related to infectious diseases and public health.

  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, fact sheets, and success stories.

  • Monitor media coverage and public health news relevant to the organization's work.

  • Contribute to website updates and content management.

  • Assist in organizing webinars, events, conferences, and community engagement activities.

  • Help maintain communication databases and mailing lists.

  • Support the collection of stories, testimonials, and impact data from projects and partners.

  • Ensure that communications materials align with the organization's mission, values, and branding guidelines.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Interest in public health, infectious diseases, global health, or nonprofit communications.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to write clearly for different audiences.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.

  • Basic knowledge of content creation, graphic design, or video editing is an asset.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

  • Proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills

  • Organized, self-directed, and responsive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Docs, Sheets), Slack and Canva.

  • Interest in infectious diseases, global health, health equity, public health, or science communication

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, multicultural environment

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
