The Infectious Disease Policy Journal (IDPJ) (idpj.org), a flagship initiative of the Infectious Disease Alliance (IDA), is seeking a visionary Editor-in-Chief (EIC) to lead the journal’s strategic and editorial direction.
IDPJ is an interdisciplinary, open-access journal dedicated to the policy, social, and structural dimensions of infectious diseases worldwide. The Editor-in-Chief will oversee editorial operations, ensure scientific and ethical integrity, guide peer review, and advance the journal’s mission to foster evidence-informed policymaking in global health.
This role is ideal for an experienced academic, researcher, or policy professional passionate about knowledge translation, global health governance, and equitable publishing. Ideal for professionals seeking impactful volunteer experience.
Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership & Vision
Define and implement the journal’s editorial strategy in line with IDA’s mission.
Oversee all aspects of the editorial process—from submission to publication—ensuring transparency, rigor, and timely communication.
Lead the editorial board, section editors, and reviewers, fostering an inclusive and collaborative review culture.
Quality Assurance & Peer Review Management
Ensure all submissions undergo fair and independent double-blind peer review.
Uphold high standards for scientific accuracy, editorial ethics, and policy relevance.
Guide special issues, editorials, and calls for papers on emerging infectious disease topics.
Partnerships & Visibility
Strengthen the journal’s academic and institutional partnerships.
Collaborate with IDA leadership to promote IDPJ’s visibility, readership, and indexing.
Represent IDPJ at international conferences, webinars, and academic forums.
Innovation & Development
Contribute to the journal’s digital growth, open-access strategies, and editorial guidelines.
Oversee the integration of new article types such as conference abstracts, commentaries, and policy briefs.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Advanced degree (PhD, MD, DrPH, or equivalent) in public/global health, infectious diseases, health policy, or related fields.
At least 7–10 years of experience in academic publishing, peer review, or editorial management.
Proven track record of scholarly publications and editorial leadership in international journals or health policy outlets.
Skills
Strong understanding of academic publishing ethics (COPE, ICMJE).
Excellent writing, editing, and critical review skills.
Familiarity with Open Journal Systems (OJS) or similar platforms.
Strong communication and leadership abilities with multicultural and interdisciplinary teams.
